What is it?
This article will show you the steps involved in creating a Discount Code. Discount Codes are used to offer your members discounts on form submissions. These can be applied for both form price fields, and membership.
How to Access
Discount codes are configurable by navigating to forms-> form list-> click Edit next to the form-> View the Form Settings tab on the left-> scroll down to Discount Codes.
Configuring a Discount Code
Click Add Discount Code to create a discount code that overrides all other pricing on affected fields. This name of the code will be what the user enters when they are taking the form in order to receive a discount.
Once you add the code it will take you back out to the discount code list in the form settings tab. Click ‘edit’ to configure your discount code. Once you are in the settings of the discount code you can configure it.
-
Discount Code Text: this will establish the characters you would like to set up as your code. This is case sensitive.
-
Limit Number of Uses: this allows you to cap the number of times this code can be used. If there is not a limit, leave it blank.
-
Expiration: This toggle will allow you to set a time limit of the use of this code. To the right you can select the calendar date that the discount code will expire.
-
Enable: This toggle will make this discount code active/inactive.
Once the baseline configuration is established, you will want to set the discounted prices for your Form Price Fields or Membership if applicable.
To discount Form Price Fields ensure the 'Price Fields' tab is selected, and choose one or more Member Types for which the discounted prices will apply using the 'Click here to choose one or more member types' modal, and clicking 'Add a column'.
Here you will see your pricing fields as rows. There will be a ‘Base Price’ column to the left.
This will populate a second column to the right. This column is for the discounted rate, so if you wanted to take $20 off of a $50 price, your column would say "$30".
Once you have set it up, click save at the bottom right, or the 'Membership' tab to discount membership price fields.
NOTE: If you want the Discount Code to be applicable to everyone, you will want to select and apply all listed Member Types.
For membership discounts, select the Membership tab, and add the discounted price for each Member Type you wish to discount. Only applicable Member Types will appear based on their pricing structure.
Member Type pricing structures that are included:
- Standard Period or Date-Based
- Attribute based where the attribute is a selection set
Member Type pricing structures that are NOT included:
- Attribute based where the attribute is a number
- Organization based on a number of linked profiles
Notes: Membership pricing with Advanced pricing rules will need to be added as separate fields and can be discounted in the price fields discount section. Additionally, any membership discount codes will work for both joins and renewals.

I am assuming that the base price will be crossed out and the new fee will show on the payment page. Should the payment page appear at all if the amount due is $0?
Hi Joyce - The amount due will show on the summary page, where you can enter the discount code. I included a screenshot below showing what the page will look like once the discount code has been applied.
If the total owed after the discount code has been applied is $0, the person taking the form will hit the confirmation page right after the summary page, skipping the payment page all together.
Is it possible to do a discount code on membership? This seems to only work for events.
Hi Jeanine - It's not currently possible to offer a discount on membership dues. This is something we have on our roadmap for future addition, though!
Is there a way to see which specific individuals redeem coupon codes?
Nevermind, I found it after pulling the list of submissions. Would be a nice feature to have indiviuals listed under the Discount Code Usage Report, instead of just a bulk #.
I'd like to second the ability do a discount code on membership charges.
Kinsey:
EEK! Is there a way to get around this for offering a membership discount? We are planning to offer a $50 discount on membership this coming week and I happily agreed to set it up, not realizing that the discount codes won't work for membership.
How do I get around this? Should I set up a separate membership form using the reduced rates? (Wouldn't that screw up our membership system?) Do I give them a refund afterwards? There's got to be a way to do this.
HELP, please!
I realize I should have been a bit more specific in my question above. Specifically, the discount we are offering is $50 off for new members who join at the Introductory level next week. How can I set this up?
Hi Linda,
Our group offers a new member rate that's discounted, and we do it in five categories. We did this by creating a member type called First-Year Member. We have designations a new applicant has to fill out in order to get the right price: US Member, Mexico, etc. So they pay the discounted price, and then, as part of our membership screening, we change their group type to the one that will apply ever after -- and so they get the regular rate.
I've attached a screen shot of the pricing system, the lower part of the "edit setings" for our first-year member type. You find it in Directory/Member Types.
Hope this helps!
Chris
Hi Kinsey,
Since you last posted, is the discount on memberships still on the road map?
Hey Rosana! A discount on memberships is still on the road map. You can keep up with updates and releases as they come out here: https://help.memberclicks.com/hc/en-us/sections/206660147-Product-Updates
Is there an option for a flat percentage off (as in MemberClicks Classic) and I'm just missing it?
Hello Ryan! At this time, there is not a flat percentage off option for Discount Codes. While I've heard this feedback before, I still encourage you to submit as well, as it gives our Product Team a better idea of what folks would find most beneficial: https://portal.prodpad.com/6711
I'm trying to set up a discount code for prospects (who are members of another organization) to register for our conference at our member rate. In the beginning of the form, as prospects they are charged a higher registration rate that I set up in member types. In setting up the discount code, it only shows the base registration rate which is the member rate and not the higher prospect rate. So, I allowed the base rate for prospects. When I tried to apply the discount code on a test submission, nothing happened. The form charged the higher prospect rate which was correct but didn't reduce it with the discount code. I would really like to use a discount code for this rather than any logic. Thanks!
Hello Sara! When setting up the Discount Code, you create a column for Prospects/Public similar to Member Type Pricing. Even when you're putting in the same Base amount, it will save and give someone using that code the appropriate amount - so in your case, your Prospects who use that code should be getting Member Type pricing. If they are not, please reach out to our Help team at help@memberclicks.com or 404-879-2800, we'd be happy to dig into your set-up!
Please move the discount code for membership higher up on the food chain. This would be really helpful for us as we like to offer discounts to prior attendees.
We provide a discount for first time attendees during our annual convention registration. Members also have the ability to register their linked profiles since there are usually multiple attendees per organization. The discount has to apply to all member types and non-members as well, since any attendee could be a first-time attendee.
We have had a few cases where the discount reduced the registration fee for each attendee (even if not eligible). If a linked profile registering multiple attendees uses a discount code, will it apply to all registrants on that transaction?
Thanks!
Hello Natalie! The Discount Code is applied to all registrants, as at this time all registrants get the same pricing as the user taking the Form. If you'd like to see other options, be sure to leave us some feedback!
Is there a way to limit the use of a discount code to just the member but not the guest(s) of the member (the guests do not have profiles)?
Thanks!
Hello Laura! Discount Codes currently apply to Pricing Fields across the board, so you would be able to limit this use if your Guest Field was separate from the Submitter's Field. For this and anything else you might like to see the Discount Codes provide, please feel free to leave us some feedback.
Hello! Is it possible to have a discount code for a event for multiple registrations from one organization? For example, if 3 or more people sign up, they would get a discount.
Hey Kelly! You can create a discount code for that, however, at this time the system doesn't have a way to recognize that the code could only be used once 3 folks were registered. You may want to instruct users to reach out for a code if they're bringing 3+ people - or feel free to chat with our Help Team for more ideas related to your specific use-case!
Hi. I created an event discount and different amounts based on their membership level. When I test it, it automatically assigns me to my membership as it should. However, if I decide to change the selection to a lower discounted member rate (one I'm not qualified for) it WILL LET ME. And then I can choose to pay $49 vs the $349 I should be charged, for example.

Then, I tried creating a discount code and assigned specific Member groups with their amounts, etc. Again, when I tested it, It will automatically choose my Member level for me. But If I choose to select a lower rate, it won't give me the discount, but it will let me pay the lower rate.
How can I prohibit this? It's clearly a flaw. They must sign in to purchase, so it will recognize their member level immediately.
