What is it?
The Group Attribute Security page enables you to control what users in a Group can view and edit in other profiles, based on their Member Type. This area also controls which attributes can be viewed in the membership directory.
How to Access
Navigate to Database > Attributes. Once there, click on Group Attribute Security.
Configuring Attribute Security
1. To set view and edit permissions for a Group, select the appropriate Group in the drop-down on the left-hand side of the page. In the example below, 1st Year Professional is selected:
2. The columns listed on the page represent Member Types. The rows are the Built-in and Custom Attributes in your database. In this example, 1st Year Professionals can view the Address | Primary fields for profiles in the Prospect, Admin, Association and Student member types. But they cannot see those fields when viewing a profile in the Professional member type.
To change Attribute Security for an entire column or row, use the Change All drop-downs. Attribute access can also be updated one-by-one by clicking the icon in the corresponding row and column.
NOTE: You must click "SAVE" in the upper right corner to save your changes.
Attribute Security should be configured for each Group in your database by selecting each group from the drop-down list. For each group, when access to one member type matches another member type, MC Professional will bundle those member types into the same column. You can split them apart by clicking the Add New Column button at the top of the page, then changing their permissions.
FAQ
I added a new custom attribute but on the attribute security it says N/A, why is that?
You will need to go into your Member Type Settings and add in Custom Attribute to the member type you want to possess the attribute. It will then be viewable or editable.
Go to Database > Member Types and select Edit Settings on the Member Type you want to adjust.
Then select “Assign Custom Attributes” and check off the attribute and hit “Update” and then “Save”.
Now when you go back to the Attribute Security page, it will be able to be edited.
Note: If it is a Organization Member Type, check to see if you need to add the custom attribute for the Individuals and the Organizations.

How do I switch an attribute from N/A to one of the other options?
Hi Jeanine - If an attribute reads N/A, that means it isn't assigned to the Member Type you're setting security for. To assign attributes to a Member Type, navigate to Database > Member Types > Edit Settings next to the Member Type. Once inside the Member Type, you'll see the option to Assign Custom Attributes near the top.
